2014 Ram Trucks Are Best-in-Class and in a Class of Their Own

The new 2014 Ram Trucks models are setting new standards for towing capability. The 2014 Ram 1500 is out-towing and out-best-in-classing the competition.

The 2014 Ram 1500 has achieved a new best-in-class tow rating for V-6 gasoline pickups. The truck’s 305 horsepower Pentastar® V-6, with a towing capacity of 7,450 pounds, topped all base V-6 engines in the segment. To achieve the best-in-class number, Ram powertrain engineers added a more robust parking gear to the exclusive 8-speed TorqueFlite® 8 for a higher capacity rating.

“There was more towing capacity in the V-6 Ram 1500 but we needed to upgrade the transmission to hold the truck and trailer when parked on steep grades,” said Mike Cairns – Chief Engineer, Ram Truck. “Now that we’re building the transmissions ourselves, the improvements are included in the new assembly.”

Not to be outdone, the Ram 1500 V-6 EcoDiesel created a class all its own. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel’s towing capacity is rated up to 9,200 lbs., approaching large V-8 capability. The truck, which has no direct competitors, boasts a best-in-class fuel economy of better than 25 mpg.

Once you achieve best-in-class ratings, the logical next step to take is to create classes of your own. The new 2014 Ram Trucks are either at the top of their game or are flat out writing new rules. I’ve been waiting for this truck. If you had been building it already I wouldn’t be driving a smaller truck.

That new Diesel 1500 looks awesome, good job Dodge. Our 1 ton 2006 was capable of getting 20 mpg with the 5.9 liter Diesel on the Interstate without a trailer. Was a great truck, just bought a 2012, hope it’s as good!

Once again, please bring this truck to Australia !

You should bring this one to Austria! Even I love my HEMI this would be a mass seller regarding the fuel economy. 25 mpg/9.4 l ist great.

Trading in my 04 5.9 Diesel 2500 for one of these. I don’t need the 3/4 ton anymore and looking forward to almost 30 MPG for a full size truck. Midnight Blue please. Hope the Italian diesel is on par with Cummings.

Just wondering, was the Pentastar compared with the EcoBoost from Ford? It is also a V6 (albeit with twin turbos). I’m a huge Ram guy but somehow I don’t think a naturally aspirated V6 could out pull a twin turbo V6 with almost the same displacment

Last I heard, the diesel 1500 won’t be available until mid-October. Is this still correct?
