There’s really only one constant at Ram Trucks: change. The 2013 model year saw huge change with the introduction of an all-new Ram 1500 pickup, improved from front to rear. The changes for 2014 are less exaggerated but equally important in keeping Ram Trucks at the front of the pack.
One big change for 2014—revolutionary, you could say—is the introduction of the EcoDiesel 3.0-liter V6. This new powerplant is a turbocharged, 24-valve diesel that develops 240 horsepower and a staggering 420 lb.-ft. of torque. Paired with the advanced TorqueFlite 8 eight-speed automatic transmission, the Ram 1500 with EcoDiesel V6 offers 9,200 pounds of towing capacity and still delivers a fuel economy rating of better than 25 miles per gallon on the highway. This level of performance wasn’t even thought possible only a few short years ago.
Other changes for 2014 are more subtle but just as impressive: Take the new front park assist system, the first on a Ram pickup. Four sensors in the front bumper send out ultrasonic waves when the vehicle is driven forward at low speeds, detecting objects up to nearly four feet away. Warning chimes and readouts in the instrument cluster notify the driver of objects in the vehicle’s path—a significant breakthrough in safety.
Other advances for 2014 include Parasitic Loss Reduction and a variable-displacement air-conditioning compressor (VDC), two key features designed to deliver ultimate vehicle performance and wring every last drop of energy from a gallon of fuel.
