The Real People, Real Trucks series has been around for about two months now and we couldn’t be happier with the quality submissions that continue to roll in. The only shame is that we haven’t been able to get to everybody’s submission as quickly as we’d like.
With that in mind, we’re doubling up submissions this week by posting two stories that came in with no photo attachments, but that are nonetheless as compelling as any story we’ve read. The photo here is from our own files; it’s one we think reflects the spirit shared by the Ram owners below.
First up, Carl Heckwine of Jacksonville, FL.
Ram trucks have always had a special place in my heart, starting with the 1952 Ram Pickup I was given in 1979 as a 16th birthday present. It was a 3 window with a flathead 6 and 4-speed with a granny gear. This truck had been sitting for several years but all it took to get running was a tune-up, a new battery and fresh gas. I had it for a few years before trading it off.
When I decided to buy my first brand-new vehicle after always owning used, I wouldn’t look at anything but a new 1995 Ram. I love this truck and drove it for 10 years before selling it to my dad. I tried another brand for a couple years but soon found that to be an inferior truck, and after looking around for a while, I found and extremely low mileage 2006 Ram. I drove that truck for about 3 years before deciding last year to buy back my ‘95 from my dad.

Let me start by saying I have had a lot of Ram trucks. I still have my 1978 D150 slant six two-wheel-drive short bed. Cool truck. However, I just traded my dream 2010 Ram 4×4 HEMI for a 2012 HEMI 4×4 ST with the Express package. This truck has everyone I meet or talk to giving me compliments on how nice it looks. I can’t wait till I have time to put on the five-inch lift with the 35-inch wheels and tires. Needless to say I am a die-hard Mopar man. This truck is roomy, comfortable, and has all the power I need to make it up the hill to get home in the snow or mud on my dead-end road. Ram trucks will be number one in my book always. Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Nissan, or any other company that wants to make a truck needs to take lessons from the best. Mopar or no car.
