Last week, we were pleased to announce the winner in our Ram Stories of Glory contest. Although Zak T. won for this submission, which reinforces the values of preparedness and perseverance, his was not the only story to impress our judges.
This week, we’re presenting the story submitted by first runner-up Mike Byrum, who set a personal best on the golf course the very same day he finished cancer treatment. Now, if that’s not a good day, we don’t know what is.

- Story of Glory:
“A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer (non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma). Went to Duke Medical (yes, I love Duke) for intense chemo and weeks of radiation. No choice. If I wanted to live, I had to go through hell. On the day of my last treatment, I returned home. My golf buddies asked me to join them for a round of golf. What happened over the next 18 holes was truly unbelievable. On the last hole, I made a 20-foot putt for a birdie. I just stood there, thankful it went in. I looked at my buddies, and they were in stunned silence. After a few seconds, my best friend looked at me and quietly said, “I just watched the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. You just shot a 64!” (eight under par). It was my lowest score by far in 35 years of playing golf. No mulligans, no gimmes, and no more cancer.”
