Now that we’ve announced the grand prize winner as well as the first and second runners-up for the Ram and Dan Patrick Stories of Glory contest, we feel it’s time to give a well-deserved shout-out to Lauren M. of Scottsville, Kentucky.
Although Lauren’s story didn’t quite manage to crack the top three, she still impressed our judges, something this athlete is probably very used to doing.
I started my first high school varsity softball game as a seventh-grader. At 12 years old, I took the mound and threw a perfect game to start my high school varsity career and pitched every game for ECHS for the next six years. Six years, three all-state selections, a district championship, and over 1,000 strikeouts later, I had my senior night.
Breaking my middle finger doing a headfirst slide in the bottom of the first inning, I went on to throw a perfect game. I had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning and struck out the side in the seventh. I started my career “perfect” and went out “perfect” on my senior night. With my crooked finger as a forever reminder, it doesn’t get much better than that.
Thanks for sharing your story, Lauren. We all agree that it’s the “perfect” way to officially close out the Ram and Dan Patrick Stories of Glory contest.
