By now you must have heard the news—thanks to the Pentastar V-6 / Torqueflite 8 engine-tranny combo, not to mention various other engineering advances (active grille shutters and four-corner air suspension to name but two), the new 2013 Ram 1500 can achieve a best-in-class EPA-estimated 25 highway MPG.
Proud as we are of that number, we’re also well aware that because of work or even personal requirements (camper hauling, for instance), certain prospective Ram owners must necessarily trade better fuel economy in favor of the added power and torque to be gained with a larger engine.
For many, the decision to go with, say, a 5.7L HEMI V-8 rather than the standard Pentastar V-6 comes down to what the truck is asked to do. For all, smart decisions regarding available powertrains can only be made when sufficient information is provided.
To that end, your friends at Ram have put together an MPG comparison chart that clearly shows the fuel and/or power advantages of differing powertrains and for model years 2012 and 2013. As an added bonus, we also give you the MPG differences between 4×2 and 4×4 as they relate to every model in the 2012 Ram 1500 lineup, as well as those limited 4×4 models currently available for 2013.
