A light-duty pickup truck should be nothing if not versatile—worthy of any jobsite, a natural fit in any city, yet agile and rugged enough for weekend excursions down overgrown two-tracks in the woods.
As it happens, the new 2013 Ram 1500 is about as versatile as it gets. The truck is perfectly at home in urban or suburban settings—so much so that Decisive Magazine named it the Urban Truck of the Year. But it also shows considerable capability when conditions are, shall we say, less than civilized. To help validate the latter claim, we need look no further than Four Wheeler Magazine. The popular off-road enthusiast publication recently named the new 2013 Ram 1500 its choice for Pickup Truck of the Year.
“Our readers use their trucks sometimes in much harsher duty cycles than most would expect,” said John Cappa, editor of Four Wheeler Magazine. “Within our testing, we integrate a number of challenges to push capability and durability. At trails-end, the 2013 Ram 1500 was our choice and winner of Four Wheeler Magazine’s Pickup Truck of the Year.”
Testing takes place over five days and 1,000 miles, providing the panel of seven judges an opportunity to experience every plausible condition, from city gridlock to technical trails. Judges evaluated each vehicle on its performance, comfort and design.
“Pickup Truck of the Year from Four Wheeler Magazine recognizes the engineering efforts put forth to mold the new 2013 Ram 1500 and we’re honored to carry the title,” said Fred Diaz, president and CEO Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico, Chrysler Group LLC. “A large percentage of our customers are outdoor enthusiasts, making this award very well received in a fiercely competitive truck market.”
Whether it’s striving for awards like this one, developing segment-exclusive technologies like the RamBox® Cargo Management System, or providing video tips for the hunt, outdoor enthusiasts should know that Ram is always on the lookout for ways to improve the outdoor experience.
