Work trucks are about more than just getting the job done; they’re a home away from home for those of us who work on the road. As likely as you are to have the tools of your trade on-hand, you’re just as likely to have your favorite creature comforts in tow. What are your must-haves for a day on the road?
- Coffee Mug and Thermos: There are few issues to consider when choosing a mug: volume, spillage, nostalgia (World’s Greatest Dad?). But one thing is certain: you need fuel just as much as your truck does.
- Flashlight: Make sure your batteries are charged. Flashlights come in handy on the worksite, or if you’re helping a fellow motorist on the side of the road.
- Shovel: Speaking of fellow motorists, not everyone has the traction and 4×4 power of Ram Trucks. You might have to help dig a car out of a snow bank – unless you decide to tow it instead, of course.
- Ice Scraper: Remote start is a great feature, but if you live along a Midwestern snowbelt you’re going to need a bit more than heat alone to get the snow and ice off your truck.
- Atlas and Local Map: Even with GPS, sometimes it’s nice to make notes on a map, especially if you’re using work truck doubles as your play truck – need to remember those good fishing spots.
- Scratchpad and Pencil: You might need to do some quick math, you might need to jot down a phone number, you might even need to remember to pick up a gallon of milk on the way home.
- Knife or Multi-Purpose Tool: For unexpected roadblocks at work, as a first-aid tool for minor dings and slivers, for fishing on your (cough, cough) sick days. It’s amazing what a good knife can do for you – sharpening your pencil, for example.
