Ram Caves: The Final Products

Last fall, we pulled together a team of pros to help turn the garages of a few lucky Ram fans into the ultimate Ram Caves. You sent us photos of your garages and told us the stories of why your garage deserved some serious renovations. You wrote some heartfelt essays, and we now know how much you love your Ram Trucks.

And a few of you won the garage overhaul you’d been hoping for.

We worked with Bob Vila, Brett McKay of Art of Manliness and Timothy Dahl of Charles & Hudson to design three Ram-inspired garage revamps. Each of the designers took the lead on a renovation specifically tailored to a different Ram Truck trim. The results were as awesome as you’d expect.

Timothy Dahl visited Lee S. and designed a Ram Cave based on the Ram 1500. With new windows, cabinets, doors and more, this project turned out to be a home-improvement success the whole family will love and use.

Rachel K. had a visit from Bob Vila, who was happy to come help her dad, Dan, renovate his garage into the ultimate Ram Cave. When all was said and done, this standard garage was transformed into an impressive new workshop with a personal touch, all inspired by the Ram 2500.

Randy R. wanted a place to do his work closer to home and be near his family. Brett McKay took the challenge and transformed his garage into a place where Randy can both work hard and play hard. The Ram 3500 inspired this Ram Cave that went above and beyond what Randy imagined.

Visit RamCaves.com to learn more about the garage renovations and the stories behind them. Let us know in the comments how you would redo your own garage.

Safety and Reliability in Your Ram Truck

Ram Trucks are known for tough capability and the rugged lifestyle their drivers lead. Those who drive them know that they’re a perfect truck for working hard and playing hard. Regardless of what you use your Ram Truck for, rest assured that all those who ride along with you will do so safely. Ram Trucks offer advanced occupant protection so that your ride isn’t just comfortable, it’s also secure.

Among the safety and security features included in a Ram Truck are smart side curtain airbags. If necessary, these airbags will deploy at a speed proportional to that of your impact. This isn’t just safety for the sake of safety, it’s safety that keeps real people in mind. Side-impact door beams were also engineered with the passenger as the priority. The door beams are made to absorb the force of a collision from the side, keeping you and your passengers safe at all angles.

As the driver of a Ram Truck, you’ll feel more secure if you encounter unfavorable conditions thanks to Electronic Stability Control (ECS). ECS helps you maintain control of your truck when you need it most. Electronic Stability Control comes with Hill Start Assist, Trailer Sway Control, Rain Brake Alert, Brake Assist and Ready Alert Braking. Disc Antilock Brakes also come standard on every Ram 1500, so you shouldn’t worry about your brakes locking up on slick roads.

In the event you do find yourself in a collision, dynamic form crumple zones are engineered to take the brunt of the hit so you and those you carry will be safe and sound.

Ram Trucks are built to withstand the toughest of conditions. You’ll carry a lot of precious cargo while putting miles on your truck, so have confidence that it will all be safe.

Ram Trucks Hosts EcoDiesel Google Plus Hangout

To say that we’re proud of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is an understatement. When we put the powerful and fuel-efficient power plant into our award-winning Ram 1500, it was revolutionary. A diesel in a half-ton pickup was unheard of in North America until Ram Trucks brought the EcoDiesel to market.

Taking a Ram Truck Across State Borders

Crossing state borders is a rite of passage. Whether you have a destination in mind or not, crossing a state line encourages you on your journey. Maybe it’s because you’re closer to your final destination, or maybe it’s because you’re further from your origin; either way, you know you’re moving.

New Mexico

In some places state borders are drawn by rivers or mountain ranges. In others, it’s a line of longitude or latitude. Sometimes when you cross the border, you find yourself in another time zone. State lines can define which sports team you pull for or how you like your barbecue.

When we took the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel on a Victory Lap as Motor Trend’s twice-consecutive Truck of the Year, we crossed a lot of state lines (2400 miles will do that). From Detroit to L.A., there’s a lot to see. Monuments, cities, deserts and long open roads. Most of these states come with a lot of differences, but there’s one thing they all have in common: Ram Truck owners are loyal and are confident in the capability of their trucks.

It doesn’t matter where you’re from or where you’re going. When you’re crossing state lines in a Ram Truck, you know you’re heading in the right direction.

Ram 1500 Motor Trend Truck of the Year Victory Lap

We like to brag around here, so unless you’re new to Ram Zone, you’ve probably already heard that the Ram 1500 is the 2014 Motor Trend Truck of the Year. You may have also heard that this is the first time that title has ever been won by the same truck two consecutive years in a row. That’s right: back-to-back Motor Trend Truck of the Year titles for the Ram 1500.

How do you celebrate an accomplishment like this? Take a victory lap, of course.

We started in Detroit at the Ram Truck assembly plant, where we got to take a look at how the new Ram 1500 EcoDiesels are put together. They even look good on the line!

Here it is, all put together. The payload for this Ram 1500 is a handcrafted Motor Trend Truck of the Year trophy. We’ll be showing off for the entire country on the open road.

And we’re off. There was a lot of open road to cover on this trip. We made our first stop in Caro, Michigan, where Ram owner RJ Magiera was keen to show off his truck. Of course, you’re going to be proud when you own a Ram Truck, but knowing you own a two-time champion makes it that much sweeter.

We had a little photo op with the Arch of St. Louis, the Gateway to the West. Seems fitting given the remainder of our route.

After a lot of driving and a little bit of rest, we got an early start with Michael Sweeney, another Ram Truck owner in New Baden, Illinois. He was equally excited to show off his ride.

The Ram Victory Lap left Illinois and headed south to Texas. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel got to show off big time on this long haul, with lots of miles on the road. Sherman, Texas, was waiting for us when we pulled in to the Hoyte dealership. This guy’s been dealing Ram Trucks for decades and knows his stuff.

He also had his friend show us around his ranch, back up north a bit in Oklahoma. The cattle and donkeys seemed to really take to the Ram Truck.

Photo 7

Good day? Definitely. Also, not finished. Next stop: Tyler, Texas. We visited the home of Randy Staples and checked out both of the Ram Trucks he uses for his irrigation business. After a quick dinner on their back porch, we swung through the Red Dirt Barbecue Fest and met some of the locals.

The crew took a day off to relax in Dallas, then we hit the road westward through Texas and into New Mexico. On the way, we pulled over and caught a train hauling huge wind turbine blades. Kindred spirits.

After a couple more full days on the road, the Ram Victory Lap reached Prescott, Arizona, and the beautiful Watson Lake.

Photo 11

We spent the next morning with Robert Howell and his family. Robert runs a mobile auto glass repair business out of his Ram 1500. That afternoon, we had some fun in the desert.

Back on the road, and we finally made it to California. We met with Travis Hess and saw his custom Ram Truck. Travis works at a Simi Valley body shop.

Photo 14

We wrapped up that evening at Dockweiler Beach, celebrating over 2400 miles driven from Detroit to LA. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel proved that a new generation of speed and power is truly as capable and efficient as the back-to-back Motor Trend Truck of the Year titles suggest. This is a great country, and there’s no better way to see it than in a Ram Truck.
