Year of the Farmer | Lisa Steele: How Chickens Made Us Part of the Community

The Steele family truck – A 2003 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4×4

Welcome to RamZone’s Year of Farmer guest blogger series, where stories of life on the American farm are offered by the people best qualified to tell them—American farmers. Over the next nine months, a number of guest bloggers, all of whom are involved in agricultural work of some kind, will take turns contributing exclusive content to RamZone. The goal is simple: to raise awareness in the Year of the Farmer for the values, ideals and simple pleasures associated with the farming life.

First in the series is blogger Lisa Steele, whose popular blog Fresh Eggs Daily is a go-to source for raising chickens and for country insight in general. Enjoy!

Thompson Square on the Ram Trucks Red Carpet

Each year, country music’s hottest artists and biggest fans pack up and head to Las Vegas for the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, and thanks to my friends at Ram Trucks, I had the opportunity to experience the ACM Awards like never before. In addition to covering the red carpet and attending the 48th Annual ACM Awards show, I also had the chance to attend and cover events leading up to “Country Music’s Party of the Year.”

In recent years, the days leading up to the annual awards show have become something bigger – it’s “the week Vegas goes country.” In addition to the ACM Awards, fans have the opportunity to attend several events and get up close and personal with country music newcomers and superstars alike. Bacon

But to truly understand how deeply the American agricultural industry is tied to us all, not just to farmers and their families, we thought we’d highlight a few of the key production statistics that define everybody’s favorite breakfast (lunch and dinner) food—bacon.

Please enjoy our infographic that proves once and for all how bacon connects America.

God Made a Farmer, Now the Farmer Tells Her Story

God Made a Farmer, Now the Farmer Tells Her Story

The “Year of the Farmer” officially kicked off February 3, 2013, when the Ram Trucks “Farmer” spot aired during the biggest television sports event on the year—the Super Bowl. The first two-minute airing of that commercial marked the start of something special, an outpouring of support and gratitude for our nation’s farmers that resulted in over 15 million views on YouTube and a $1 million donation from the Ram Trucks brand to the FFA*.

Now, the Year of the Farmer is transitioning into its next “season” with a more personal look at life on farms as recounted by the farmers themselves. Ram Trucks has reached out  to several popular farmer/bloggers, and each month from now until the end of the year, we will feature one of their posts exclusively on the RamZone blog.
