Spring Towing Tips for your Ram Truck

Spring is well underway, which means you and your Ram truck will be heading out for some warm-weather adventures. For many Ram truck owners that most likely includes boats, motorcycles, and campers tagging along – and with our towing capabilities, you won’t have to think twice.Friday

Towing can be a bit intimidating, especially if you’re a first-time truck owner. If you do your homework regarding proper equipment and practices, the process soon becomes almost second nature. Meanwhile, here are a few simple tricks to help make the trip safer and more enjoyable:

  1. Check Around– Just before you head out, always check the tire inflation pressure all the way around on both the tow vehicle and trailer. Don’t underestimate how a small amount of over or under-inflation can make a big difference in the handling properties of the rig.
  2. Maintain– If a wind gust from an overtaking semi or other vehicle causes your rig to sway or swerve, don’t stab the brakes. Cleanly move your foot off the throttle, firm up your grip on the steering wheel, and give the rig a moment or two to stabilize.
  3. Go With the Flow– When backing up, relocate your hands on the steering wheel from the usual ten and two o’clock positions to five and seven.  This makes reverse-maneuvering the trailer much more natural and intuitive.

When it comes to the Ram 1500, don’t let the term “light duty” fool you. A Ram 1500 has a maximum payload of 1,890 lbs, and a maximum towing capacity of 10,640 lbs. If you’ll be towing boats, ATVs or trailers, this is the truck for you.

Ram Truck’s heavy-duty trucks are best suited for towing construction equipment and other heavy commercial loads. With a maximum payload of 7,390 lbs. and a maximum towing capacity of 31,210 lbs. – your heavy-duty needs will be taken care of.

When it comes to towing your toys (or tools), we know that capability is key. Whether you’re towing 5 tons or 15, there’s a Ram truck that meets your needs and then some.

Cameron Hanes & His Custom Ram 2500

12764888_1177325422307484_4044235879954717544_oHey guys, so as you know, last year Ram Trucks hooked me up with my Ram 2500 Laramie Limited black-on-black beast, and thought I would give you all an update on how the truck has been fitting into my lifestyle…it fits perfectly.

Before I started driving my custom Ram Unknown-12500 Limited, I didn’t even know trucks were made this nice. It’s definitely one of those rigs that guys like me dream about. I figured it was time to share a few of my favorite features.

I love how the available RamBox ® acts as a special bow compartment where I know my Hoyt is locked away and safe.

Unknown-3The leather pockets on the interior make an awesome custom arrow holder behind the driver’s seat.

My favorite music is easily hooked up from my phone to my truck where it jams on the Alpine ® sound system, offering perfect soundtracks while heading to run the mountain, shoot on the range or hit the hills on a hunt.

I could go on all day, but I think you get the picture. I couldn’t be happier with my Ram Truck.

Which Ram Truck is Right for You? | Ram 1500 vs. Ram 2500

Truck shopping can be intimidating, especially for first-time buyers. There are many specifications that address your specific needs, but often the first question you need to issue can be boiled down to one question: What Ram Truck will best suit your needs?

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 4.23.30 PMTo help answer this question, first we need to dispel some misinformation. Conventional, standard-duty pickups like the Ram 1500 are traditionally called “half-ton” trucks, but that’s an obsolete way of talking about truck capabilities. In fact, the Ram 1500’s hauling and towing capacities are far beyond a half-ton. For example, a basic Ram 1500 Tradesman has a maximum payload of 1,880 lbs.* (nearly a ton) and a maximum towing capacity of up to 10,640 lbs.* – which are more than sufficient for what you’ll need to get the job done.

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 4.25.12 PMSimilar old truck designations such as “three-quarter-ton” and “one-ton” are equally misleading. HD trucks like the Ram 2500 and 3500 have far greater capabilities than these terms suggest. For example, the Ram Tradesman 2500 has a max payload of 3,990 lbs.* and a max towing capacity of 17,980 lbs.* So if you’re pulling a large boat or, say, a heavy-duty construction trailer, the 2500 may be great fit for your needs.

Another important difference between the 1500 and 2500 is in their available engine and drivetrain packages. The Ram 1500 is offered with a choice of 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6, 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 and 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engines, which offer a good balance of performance and economy for typical light commercial and consumer use. In contrast, engine choices in the HD Ram 2500 include the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 VVT, 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 and 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel, packages designed to tow and haul heavier loads and deliver long term dependability.

Summing up: A solid understanding of the weights you will be hauling and pulling is the key to selecting the right Ram truck for your needs. And if you have questions, you can simply consult the towing guide at RamTrucks.com or visit with the truck experts at your local Ram Trucks dealer.

Introducing the New 2017 Ram Power Wagon

The Ram Brand is kicking off 2016 with exciting, powerful news for Ram truck fans.

On Thursday, February 11th at the Chicago Auto Show, Ram Brand Head Bob Hegbloom unveiled the new 2017 Ram Power Wagon.

Screen Shot 2016-02-10 at 11.02.44 AM“The Power Wagon is the grand-daddy of every four-wheel-drive pickup in America. From the original, to the modern era of Power Wagons…its 70-year mission has never wavered,” said Hegbloom.

That mission – is to be the ultimate off-road truck.

The Power Wagon’s combined axle and suspension package is designed to clear obstacles and do what it takes to deliver all its power and torque.

The Power Wagon maintains ground contact with a segment leading 26-inches of axle articulation. All that from a vehicle that still delivers full pickup-truck capability.

“For 2017, we’ve given the Power Wagon a new attitude to what is already the most capable truck on the planet,” said Hegbloom.

Screen Shot 2016-02-10 at 11.02.59 AMYou can’t miss the Power Wagon’s all-new grille, with its prominent billet-silver “Ram” letter badging. It features projector headlamps with black bezels, and LED market lights that anchor the taller, aggressive, heavy-duty hood.

Black accents emphasize the Power Wagon’s no-fear presence. The front bumper incorporates two-tow hooks, fog lights and its custom winch.

The truck features an all-new, one-piece 17-inch cast aluminum wheel that incorporates matte-black painted accent pockets and multi-angled surfaces.

In the rear, a new “Ram” stamped tailgate with exclusive “Power Wagon” and “4×4” badging add to rugged look of the truck .

One of the most obvious changes is the new graphics complete with a distinctive, retro influence – that are actually a nod to the 1979 and ’80 Power Wagons.

With or without the graphics, the 2017 Power Wagon will be available in six colors.

The distinctive exterior is complemented by an interior that’s just as rugged, and just as dramatic. The seats are covered with a durable, technical-grain material embossed with the actual tire tread pattern.

Screen Shot 2016-02-10 at 11.05.11 AMRam brand emblems are evident throughout the interior, even on the deep, all-weather rubber floor mats.

The functional, lifestyle-needs of a Power Wagon driver are unique – and we designed this truck with those needs in mind.

Optional back-up and bed-view cameras are available for those wanting a better field of vision when maneuvering or hooking up a trailer.

The 12,000lb. winch with 125 feet of line is ideally suited for rescuing stuck-in-the-mud competitive trucks with less equipment.

We’ve added industry-exclusive enhancements that combine tScreen Shot 2016-02-10 at 11.05.26 AMo deliver more than two inches of lift and a 14.3-inch ground clearance.

“Power” is the operative word with this truck, which is powered by the proven 6.5-liter HEMI V-8 engine, which delivers 410 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, and is matched to a 4.10 axle ration for serious work or hill climbing.

While this is an unbeatable pickup package, the Ram brand understands that one size does not fit all – which is why we’ll also offer a Tradesman Power Wagon model to help commercial customers reach the hardest-working jobsites.

Screen Shot 2016-02-10 at 11.05.38 AM“The Ram Power Wagon begins with authentic truck capability, and ends as deep into the woods or as high into the mountains as our customers want to,” said Hegbloom.
We listen to what truck owners want, and we will continue to put everything we have into delivering it, always pushing what’s possible. We couldn’t be more excited to bring you another truck so you can take living the “Ram Life” to a whole new, powerful level.
