My name is Judson Richards. I’m fortunate enough to live in America’s finest city, San Diego, CA. I spend most of my time behind a microphone doing sports talk radio for the Chargers flagship station, XTRA 1360 Fox Sports San Diego.

Where do I begin with my experience with the 2015 Ram Rebel? First, the backstory: each Summer I find a week to unplug. No cell phone, no computers, very little news and very little TV. It’s a real effort to recharge the battery.

When I was a kid, my late father fell in love with a little mountain town, Crested Butte, CO. We owned horses, road mountain bikes, fly fished and skied. I wish every child could experience the outdoors the way
I did, and I make a conscious effort to tap back into those experiences as an adult.

The trip from San Diego, CA, to Crested Butte, CO, is a long 17-hour drive, but the road trip in the Rebel was unlike anything else.

Let’s begin with the ride itself. As I traveled on the I-15 through Utah, the speed limit was 80 mph. I was blown away by how smooth and how quiet the ride was. We’re talking about an available HEMI^® V8, 33-inch tires and a lifted suspension, while I’m on cruise control at 80 mph without a bump, shake or rattle. I’ve never been in a truck so equipped to be off-road that handles itself this well at high speeds. From gas mileage to comfort, the Ram Rebel had me impressed immediately with how it handled on the open road.

When you spend 17 hours in the cab of a truck you get to know the console and dashboard incredibly well. Ram Trucks have outdone themselves with the design. With its top-of-the-line available navigation system, user-friendly climate control and audio control buttons on the back of the steering wheel, no stone was left unturned. The color scheme and design of the Ram Rebel cab is the best I’ve ever seen in a truck.

A favorite feature for me was the available RamBox^® Cargo Management System. When you get out of the river, you’ve got soaking wet waders. When you get out of the ocean, you’ve got wet towels, wetsuits — things you don’t want in the cab of your truck.  The RamBox^® simply gives you more options of where you may store things.

Finally, the look: Ram trucks have always had a sleek, yet rugged design. The hood design of the Ram Rebel only amplifies it. On June 29, 2015, the Independent We Stand team set off on their “Main Streets Make Us Better” road trip in a new 2015 Ram ProMaster City™. The ProMaster City was graciously provided for the trip by Ram Trucks and BusinessLink. With Best-in-Class* cargo capacity, of 131.7 cubic feet and Best-in-Class* payload up to 1,883 lbs., there was more than enough room for four adults, plus luggage, and camera equipment. The purpose of the “Main Streets Make Us Better” road trip was to raise awareness for America’s Main Streets – and the small businesses on them – like the independently owned FCA US LLC BusinessLink dealers. Our team visited 22 cities, from Detroit to Boston, over a period of five days. We interviewed over 40 business owners – from hardware stores to boutiques – about why they think it is so important for consumers to buy, eat, drink, shop and even stay at small locally-owned businesses.

The team started in Detroit, Michigan. We visited five surrounding cities without having to fill up the gas tank, thanks to the Ram ProMaster City™’s estimated 21 City MPG and 29 Highway MPG. It was hard enough finding independent gas stations, so we were lucky that we could plan accordingly.

Keeping ourselves organized on the trip was made easier with the overhead shelf system, storage trays and in-dash storage. The overhead shelf system kept all our paperwork out of the way, but easily accessible; while the in-dash storage provided perfect compartments for collateral materials like our business cards.

Our Ram ProMaster City™ was equipped with a 5.0-inch UConnect® Touchscreen with GPS navigation, which made navigation through cities like Cleveland and Boston straightforward and more importantly – hands-free. Further, the Parkview® Rear Back-Up Camera provided much needed parallel parking assistance; while, the 60/40 split rear doors made our unloading process effortless.

Along the way the Independent We Stand team gathered small independent business owners’ opinions of the new vehicle. The independent business owners we interviewed that had an opportunity to see and explore the vehicle were intrigued and eager to learn more about capabilities and different models. For the outdoor power equipment dealers, it was a perfect size and had plenty of space. Steve Ritzau, of Mrs. G’s Appliances, in Lawrence Township, Pennsylvania, loved the back-up camera and Patrick Kennedy, owner of Superior Woodcraft Custom Cabinets, in Doylestown noted that it would be perfect for their deliveries in the city.

Country recording artist Easton Corbin has debuted a new song, titled “Let’s Ride,” inspired by his partnership with Ram trucks.

“When you think about songs you want to perform, you think about those memories that last forever, or songs you heard while in your favorite truck,” said Easton Corbin. 

The music video for “Let’s Ride” features a Ram 1500, and is all about the memories and adventures you share with your truck.

“It’s easy to write a song like ‘Let’s Ride’ because it is all about fun and having a good time, which is what the Ram brand is all about.”

Summer is a great time to own a Ram truck. Whether you’re taking family trips, towing your boat, waverunner or quad, or just doing a little off-roading, the warm weather is just more enjoyable when a Ram truck is part of the fun.

But here’s the catch: An increase in activities like these also means that your truck is likely to take its fair share of punishment—mud, water and sand can all have an effect on your truck’s finish. Luckily, with proper care, you can keep your truck looking as new as the day you drove it off the dealer’s lot.

Wash It Often

Removing surface debris is a great start to your paint care regimen. Loose particles can cause tiny scratches in your clear coat over time. This can increase the likelihood of rust damage and diminish your truck’s appearance. It’s also important to note that if you’re washing your truck yourself, you should do so in a cool, shaded area. Direct sunlight can cause uneven drying, resulting in a blotchy appearance.

Spend Time Drying

Drying is a crucial last step in the cleaning process. Drying with a cotton towel allows you to remove any leftover dirt or mineral deposits that might have been left behind after your wash and rinse. It also ensures that you have a road-ready finish when you’re done.

Wax

Waxing creates a barrier between your paint and the environment, protecting it from scratches and fading. High-quality waxes can be used on your entire truck and have the added benefit of decreasing your paint’s temperature, which helps improve paint longevity.

Keep It Out of the Sun

The sun is the biggest enemy of your truck’s finish. It can cause fading, cracking and an overall dulling of the truck’s paint job. Whenever possible, keep your truck in the shade, garage or carport. Your paint will thank you.
