Boost Your Fuel Economy with the iDFSO System

2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie Crew CabIn 2009, Ram set the bar high with improvements to almost all areas of its trucks and, driving forward, it continues to push the envelope for all others in its class. But there’s more to the makeover than meets the eye, particularly when it comes to better real-world fuel economy. Chrysler’s new Interactive Decel Fuel Shut-Off (iDFSO) system, introduced in 2010 on all DS powertrain combinations (3.7, 4.7, and 5.7-liter) and cab/box configurations of the Ram 1500, cuts fuel to the engine during deceleration, boosting real-world city and highway gas mileage, dependent on conditions and driving style. And to address that driving style, Ram has also added a fuel-saver indicator that turns on when the truck is being driven within the optimal range for fuel economy. Because who couldn’t do with a little positive reinforcement?

    Nice work DODGE !!!

  • Scott

Can this be added retroactively to a 2009 model year?

  • Wyatt

I really don’t know how it works, but I bet it is computer controlled. So maybe a computer reflash could do it.

Why can.t us 2009 Ram 1500 owners have the computor updated. Mine doesn’t have a lot of the features that the 2009 Dodge brochure at the dealer showroom said it was going to be on the truck I bought.

BELIEVE ME, YOU DON’T WANT THIS FEATURE!!! My new Jeep Liberty has it and they ruined the way it rides – if you take your foot off the accelerator at 60mph, it automatically downshifts and the vehicle slows right down. I want to gear down when I want, not when the module tells it to…..The first day I drove it home, I thought the park brake was partly on, or the hill descent was activated but oh no, just the interactive decel feature….YUCK!

I hava 2011 2500hd, cummins. I am getting 11.3 mpg with everyday driving and 6.8 towing a 9k trailer. Why is this so low. I am feeling really stupid right now for spending $60k, when my 2002 GMC got 14.5 & 8.
